“For the past week I’ve been living in a perpetual state of unexplained dizziness. While I spend the days diagnosing myself with all sorts of terrible, incurable afflictions, I have been self-prescribing an incredibly ill-suited treatment: repeatedly clicking play on this cartoonish, hyper-active psych-pop jam from Pepepiano, the project of Laguna Beach resident David Bird. There is vibrant, shirt-staining color squirting out of every synth and bubbling effect on “No Way”. Amidst swirling layers of white noise and choir, lighters-in-the-air choruses are interwoven with breathless depictions of “maniac mechanics boasting false teeth for the lepers/ They’re hysterically endowed, infectious blue eggs for the oil men.” I do believe a lie-down is in order.”
